Horror Case Files: Stir of Echoes (1999)

Stir of Echoes

It is the 3rd annual Horror Case Files! You can check the list of the first Horror Case Files here. Well, Happy Halloween, and as a treat we are doing one of my all favorite ghost films Stir of Echoes starring Kevin Bacon. Too scared to watch it? The Horror Case Files reveal the background story, kill count, most creative kill, the killer(s), and what happened to the killer(s). WARNING! SPOILERS if you continue.

Tom gets hypnotize and becomes a “receiver”.  A receiver can particularly see and hear things where no one else can.  As a receiver, Tom sees  the spirit of a girl named Samantha trying to communicate with him.

Kill Count

Most Creative Kill

Chocked by a plastic bag

The Killer(s)

Adam and Kurt who are high school football players that lured Samantha in a house that was under construction, so they could score with her.  When she resisted, they accidentally suffocated her.  Their dads, who are Tom’s neighbors covered it up.  This was the house that Tom moves into and one of the dads is his landlord.

What Happened to the Killer(s)

Adam shoots himself, because he couldn’t handle the guilt.  Tom finds Samantha’s body behind a wall in his basement.  After touching her decomposed body, he saw the whole story through Samantha’s eyes.  He was about to tell the police, but Kurt and his Dad, who is Tom’s landlord show up.  They knew Tom was digging around the house for Samantha’s body and wanted to take care of him.  Eventually, Adam’s dad comes and shoots Kurt and his Dad right before they were going to kill Tom and his wife.  Adam’s dad shot them because he wants to preserve the community and doesn’t want to hide that secret anymore.  Tom sees Samantha’s spirit, smile and walk away.

Horror Case Files Verdict

I still love love this movie.  I just watched it a friend who has never heard of it and thought it was the cat pajamas.  Do people still say that.  To me, this was a strong performance from Bacon with this unique world of living communicating with the dead.  It grabs you from the very beginning.  Gripping story, strong acting, great soundtrack, and an unforgettable hypnotize sequence (when Tom goes under the 2nd time).  Run out and buy it and Happy Halloween!

Random Info I got from this File:
    • Don’t get hypnotize
    • Receivers get thirsty
    • Don’t ignore ghosts
